A Writer's Guide to Formatting in Word and Converting to PDF

I have written a detailed guide (with screenshots) explaining how to format a Word document for publication as a paperback on Amazon or other sites. There are many designers and editors who will format your document for you at a relatively low price, but for those of you who would like to try doing it on your own, it can be a very rewarding experience. Besides, once you've done the writing, this is the "fun" part.

Because of the length of the document and the many screenshots involved, it won't work to try to present it in this site. For your convenience, I am making it available on Dropbox and free to download through this link:

If you have any questions about this, feel free to contact me.

I am planning to write a companion piece about formatting for your Kindle eBook version - a distinctly different process. With the print version PDF, what you see is what the reader will see. With an eBook, readers can choose their own font and font size, and the pages simply flow, with no page numbers or headers or footers. But you can definitely do things in your own formatting (and pre-formatting) that will help it work the way you want.
