The Contract
A Novel

                                     P. A. Hempel

Sue has always done everything right. Good grades, great colleges, teaching AP English at an academically competitive high school in Queens. And, to top it off, a good-looking, athletic and rich fiancé. What could possibly go wrong?

Everything. When her kidneys start to fail, her fiancé dumps her and she is about to lose her job and her entire career. Following the conventional rules? Suddenly everything in her life has become a crash course – in existentialism, in feminism, in who she really wants to be. It’s time to try something totally different.

When Josh, a shy computer nerd, sees a gorgeous blonde on a dating site who is offering “a year of the hottest sex ever” in exchange for a donated kidney, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot. What could possibly go wrong?

He’s about to find out. Is this the best thing that has ever happened to him, or has he made the worst mistake of his life?

There’s no fine print in this contract. There’s no contract at all. But they both find themselves bound by its unspoken conditions.

     Jean-Paul Sartre, meet Erica Jong.

Sex, humor, existentialism.

Outcomes are never guaranteed.
